1 Who is the founder of Mix-in’s? Was he always interested in ice cream?
James Mix is the founder of Mix-in’s and, yes, James has always been interested in ice cream. James was born in 1956 and grew up in the Boston, MA area. When he wasn’t making ice cream with his family in the backyard with an ice and salt, hand-crank freezer, he would frequent the local shops. He also comes from a long line of ice cream makers on his father’s side.
James opened his first ice cream business in 1985 which was where he began developing his famous ice cream forumla. He sold the first business in 1994, and moved to Northampton, Massachusetts a year later. In 1997, he opened up Mix-in’s, which has remained in it’s original location for almost 20 years. James has since expanded his business to four other locations in New England.
2 Do you sell other things besides ice cream?
Yes we do! Along with ice cream, we also make our own frozen yogurt and sorbet. The availibility varies from location to location but we also sell custom cakes, our own hot fudge, pies and ice cream sandwiches!
3 Do you provide catering services?
Yes we do that too! We do both in store parties as well as avalible to provide ice cream for events. We offer a range of packages for a range of different budgets and event sizes. Please contact us at 413-555-9700 to start planning today!
4 What exactly is a ‘mix-in’?
We have a full description in our ice cream lingo page, but basically, it is a dish of ice cream mixed together with any toppings of your choice, with special scoops.

6 Where is the ice cream actually made?
The ice cream is made strictly according to the Mixin’s formulas, procedures, and ingredients in each store, every day. We do not contract with any other company to make our ice cream.
